In 2020, music has proved more than ever to be a safe resort for relaxing and conjuring up nostalgic feelings of better times. Qobuz’s focus on catering to their users and commitment to making it all about the music continues to resonate with their loyal and growing base of British music lovers.
Top 10: Women in the spotlight on Qobuz
Norah Jones is the first woman listed with “How I Weep,” followed by Diana Krall with “But Beautiful” and “bad guy” by Billie Eilish. Jazz artists also made a notable entry in this chart, with Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Agnes Obel, and Nubya Garcia featured in the top twenty-five of the Qobuz ranking.
Nostalgic, timeless classic rock is here to stay
Classic rock is hugely influential and enjoyed for its nostalgia factor. It’s often the most played and recognizable genre. A recent survey by Qobuz revealed 68.5% of listeners feel it is important to pass down music culture to their children. Classic rock songs that you or your parents grew up listening to allow you to connect with a different time and remind many of festivals, stadium shows, and the thrill of the crowd. Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way” (2001 Remaster) was the top streamed song, followed by British rock legends Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Phil Collins, Dire Straits, and Peter Gabriel rounding the top 20. Pop/Rock remains the most listened to genre in the UK.
Music, a sweet escape
Qobuz observed an apparent increase in use during the lockdown, more particularly during office hours: + 24% in the morning and + 20% in the afternoon. This increase is also reflected in terms of Qobuz downloads and demonstrates the importance of music as a motivating influence throughout the day in British people’s lives.
“Qobuz stands out with a 2020 ranking that is unlike any other! In these most-streamed titles cross the sure values like the discoveries, the new scene, the novelties like the reissues,’ says Marc Zisman, Editor-in-chief of Qobuz. “50 titles marked by their eclecticism to better underline the singularity of Qobuz. A ranking in which the dreamlike music of Agnes Obel combines the singular pop of Billie Eilish, and the hits “Money” by Pink Floyd and “So What” by Miles Davis mix with the funky jazz of Tom Mish or the haunting pop of Meryem Aboulouafa.”
